How many clinical/field experiences do I need to complete?

EMT Students

In total, EMT students must complete a minimum of 72 hours of clinicals, with 48 hours on an ambulance (field shift) and 24 hours in the hospital ER setting (clinical shift).

AEMT and Paramedic Students

The clinical/field experience time commitment for AEMT and Paramedic students will vary depending upon the student's ability to meet specific competency requirements related to age groups, patient types, and skills during their shifts. It is not possible to predict the exact number of shifts or hours needed to fulfill all of the Student Minimum Competency Matrix requirements; however, students must complete a minimum of 72 hours in a hospital setting and 72 hours on an ambulance. Additionally, Paramedic students must complete a Capstone/Lead Internship for which they will need to complete a minimum of 120 hours on an ambulance and 20 patient lead transports.
